Greydin Fireshield is a Solisian Knight and Paladin of Lysander. He had just finished training as a knight in Solis a year prior to be start of the campaign. He is currently traveling with a group called Kalazar's Crew with the goal of aiding the townspeople of Greenbul, the town he is currently operating out of.
Greydin Fireshield was born on the 8th of Eronin of the year 1116 to Trevar Fireshield and Alanah Skyeborne. On his father's side, he was a member of a line of Solisian protectors, tasked with defending Solis's northern borders from raiding barbarian tribes. His mother was a commoner, but oft finds her self making works of art, many of which adorn the family home. He had only one sibling, Branthen, born just a year after Greydin.
From an early age, Greydin was taught how to fight by his father, who always kept a close eye on Greydin. He grew up hearing stories about the legends of Lysander and the Rainbow Knights of Solis. At the age of 11 he began training with the Fireshieldian militia. Despite his relatively young age for joining the militia, he proved to be quite adept at all facets of combat. At the age of 12, he began squiring under one of the knights of Solis, Eldon Levistrom, stationed in the city of Firehold to aid in it's defense from the barbarian invaders. During his time squiring he learned more about Lysander values from Eldon.
Greydin began actively participating in defenses against barbarian raids shortly after becoming a squire. His prowess in battle was surprising to many. Shortly after turning 17, his father passed away. Although Greydin was the heir to the Fireshieldian holdings, he passed this responsibility to his younger brother Branthen, as Greydin felt that he had a greater purpose in both following Lysander and in the greater world after Lysander spoke to him. After turning 20, Greydin found himself participating in another routine defense against raiders. During this raid however, Greydin found one such raider, distraught and full of fear of the battle. Greydin, while knowing he was intentionally going against his intended purpose in this fight stopped, and helped her escape the conflict. After this, Greydin found himself wondering whether he made the right choice.
At the age of 21, Greydin decided that he would travel to Solis to train to be a knight of Solis, driven by his desire to help others, not just by defending them from other people, and urge to be a better follower of Lysander. After 5 years of training Greydin attended his commencement ceremony to become a fully fledged knight of Solis. He was then tasked with missionary and defense work out in the greater world.
After his commencement ceremony, he met with the attendants who would be traveling with him: Haydin Silverflame, an older squire also in training to become a knight of Solis, Liora, a Forged with a strong work ethic, and Haubrin, a doe-eyed Aasimar with substantial medical experience who had never previously traveled outside of the walls of Solis. The group set off for Greenbul, a hub city in the region, and a good starting point for any sort of adventure. After a few months of travel, the group arrived in Greenbul.
Greydin was slain by Alphox Ignis the Vampire in a floating castle outside of Forsythia on the 12th of Barncinder, 1145. He was briefly alive again, when he arose as a vampire spawn at midnight that night, before being staked by Viveth shortly thereafter.
Friends, family, and citizens of Firefate Hold. Today, I hold the heavy burden and the great honor of speaking to you all about a great man who was taken from us all far too early.
Greydin Fireshield wasn’t just the founder and namesake of Firefate Hold. He was also a loving husband, a steadfast friend, and a brother possessing unsurpassed devotion to his family.
Greydin was born on the 8th of Eronin, 1116, to Alanah Skyeborn and Trevor Fireshield. His father passed on the mantle of a Solisian protector, a mantle that Greydin took to very easily. By the age of 11, Greydin was already training alongside the Fireshield militia, and it will come as a surprise to no one that he proved an exemplary soldier. He defended his home for 10 long years, before he felt a call to a greater purpose, in service of Lysander. Greydin willing abdicated his status as the heir of Fireshield to his cherished brother, Branthen, and set off to join the knighthood in Solis. After 5 hard years of training, Greydin was a fully realized knight of Solis, tasked with traveling the world and bringing Lysander’s light to those who needed it most.
And, as all of you here know, that light shines very brightly in Greydin. Who could ever forget Greydin leading the disparate forces of the plateau to victory against the overwhelming forces of the House of Cynics? Or Greydin leading the charge to retake Nezumirah from the horrors below?
And those are just his exploits in these lands. I have had the privilege to witness Greydin stare down a Beholder, dive into battle against an underwater abomination, and even stand on his own against a force of corruption that even his companions were unable to risk facing.
But Greydin was about more than his ferociousness in battle. He was generous, giving powerful magic over to those who needed it the most, at his own expense. He was temperate, continuously showing that his Solisian loyalties would never prevent him from showing understanding and a peaceful hand to those who were at odds with Solis. He was loyal, going to extreme lengths to ensure the resurrection of at least 3 of his most treasured friends, some of which are in this audience today because of him.
When it comes to Greydin, we could talk all day about his exploits and amazing qualities. Which I’m sure we all will, in the days to come. But now, it’s time to say goodbye to our dear friend and leader. Greydin… you are loved. You will be missed. Be at peace, wherever your soul takes you in the space beyond this life.
